While 2009 was all about the milkmaid braid (or hairband braid) popularized by the likes of Anne Hathaway, Sienna Miller and Nicole Richie, 2010 is rocking the sexy, full side braid, which we saw plenty of at Alexander Wang and Miu Miu’s spring 2010 shows and PPQ’s fall 2009. Fashion editorials just can’t seem to get enough of this look, and it’s only just started … check out January Vogue 2010.
True, the braids on Alex Wang’s models get their fullness from the blatant use of extensions, but there have been plenty of street style sightings that bode well for the look.
Blake Lively has her own trademark Rapunzel braid worn tight and up high like a ponytail instead of loose and on the side, but she’s done a lot to popularize the long braid on the red carpet … albeit with mixed reviews.

We even saw flirtations with the Rapunzel braid at Priscilla of Boston’s Vineyard show, and Vera Wang spring 2010 … of course. The Priscilla braid adds a little volume at the crown, and Vera’s is quite spartan.
No one, it seems, can resist the allure of 2010’s long side braid … except, perhaps, real-life brides? But, I think this look would be gorgeous on a long-haired beach bride dressed in natural silks, even if it might not be widely adopted.
