I remember a few evenings in this winter we’ve just gotten through, buried in wool, flipping through the fashion mags just to amuse all the moths. And running head-on into those predictions (as if the dark and damp wasn’t enough) that 80’s style colors were coming back in a big way. Yes, those very same colors that STILL hang over your bed in an “impressionistic landscape” if you check into a economy-rate hotel room. Beige, peach and dusty rose.

I distinctly remember thinking WHAT THE EFF? See, I am old enough to remember the eighties loud and clear. I tucked it away with other fashion predictions, not all of which had come true.
After all, you can’t throw all your dice in with the powers that bring you the Fozzie Bear car … can you? I mean, really?
But in this case, in retrospect, the powers were right. And nudes — the colors, that is — were all over every fashion show in every corner of the world.
And while already, some fashionistas (of course) are très ennuyés with said nudes, I now feel I sort of made the same snap judgment I once made about purple. Not only are these colors incredibly lovely, they seem tailor-made for the bridal world. After all, what could be more beautiful than that miniature colorscape in a set of French manicured nails?
You can see that this is made up of fairly contemporary styles, which sets it apart from the Southern aristo look despite the muted colors. The gown, with its structured details and organza flower — modern. Hexagonal cake, minimal details, fresh flowers. Not a lot of lace or backward-looking styles here.
But speaking of purple. See that incredible darkest purple in the callas, though, how that snuck in? For that, I have to credit Stacey, that incredible helpful woman you see all over the boards at FavorIdeas. She discovered how gorgeous a touch of royal purple could be with a similar palette at Karen Tran Florals. See for yourself.

If I was time-traveling and had my wedding right now, this IS the scheme that all other schemes would have to best in some kind of rainbow cage fight. But what do you think? Do we give the eighties a go in this new incarnation? Or are the memories of Olivia Newton John’s caked-up face just too fresh?
