Why hasn’t gray taken off the way it was supposed to, as the new go-to color for all four seasons — and KO’ing chocolate brown at last?
It could be that chocolate brown just isn’t ready to throw in the towel. After all, we’ve just lately moved from choc brown + those familiar pastels (pink and blue) to bolder pairings (burgundy, purple, green). Lots of mileage to go. Perhaps.
But maybe, it’s that most of the time you see gray presented as ultra-modern. Like, very chilly modern, about as warm and fuzzy as a cat scan. For most of us … even no-nonsense types … a shivering, cylindrical no-frills scheme just doesn’t reflect our inner vision of the Love Story.
But gently modern? I’m all over that. So are you, probably. So let’s take this scheme that could easily be sub-zero — tangerine orange and lemon yellow anchored by lots of gray — and add flirty (cottage flowers), luxury (pale gray satin bouquet wrap plus brooch), modern (sleek stationery) and tradition (timeless eye-catchers, like raised dendrobium orchid centerpieces and sky-high cakes filled with clouds of pale hydrangea).
Gray, Orange and Yellow Wedding by blakekr
Let your bridesmaids whisper elegance in platinum tea-length gowns, and keep your linens soft. Then, let the girls’ flowers run riot with pure tangerine and lemon, while carrying a ladylike bouquet of monochromatics yourself. Think: shimmering goldfish in a soft gray wash of water.
Garden setting? Perfect. Slightly preppy? Oh yeah. Rustic? Not so much. But these colors will see you through the outdoor season, from spring to early Fall.

Love the colors.
Thank You !!! In am helping a friend with her reception flowers and decor.I was struggling terribly with her bright silver accents,as her colors are more apricot then tangerine and the yellow is more creamy then lemon, but I can breathe a sigh of relief and tone down the silver and use a grey. Why didn’t I think about that ?
