Coco + Kelley, as you prolly know, interviews designers each year and asks them for color predictions. Now, as a rule, interviews are usually the least compelling type of blog post, but these? You just can’t look away. They’re tremendous! I can’t wait for next years’ crop.
Anyway, one of my favorites featured Mary Jo Matsumoto, who didn’t mince words and offered up the kind of grand, colorful sound bytes reporters would die for.
Here are just of a few of her sparkly shiny gems:
“Where I put my big color money, is with the color gray. As much as I hate the saying, GRAY IS THE NEW BLACK. And expect to see it here for a good ten years or more.”
and …
“For the more fantasy-minded, cobalt dipping into midnight blue will have endless possibilities, but it’s quite possible that this is a color option that might remain at the very top end of the luxury spectrum.”

Here is where people of a certain age (reluctantly raising my hand) might take pause. Because if you happened to be my age, the Grace Slick you remember is more like sort of queasy 80’s hangover.
But if you’re a little bit older or have a wide-angle lens when it comes to design, you know better.
Psychadelic. Cosmic. These belong to a big cycle that’s growing slowly but surely. Eventually we’ll see more of it in Vogue, and much later on, maybe the bridal mags. Keep an eye out.
