I love to see unexpected influences from the street show up in weddings.
Plaid, of course, comes back in every fall, with a great sense of fun. Sometimes it’s our old friend tartan cut into wild new shapes. A lot of times, the plaid has gone through the same modernization mill that brings us the new damasks and paisleys. The new plaids can come out looking surprisingly fruity, soft and feminine, not to mention wildly sex-ay.

Of course, you don’t have to use a sweet or contemporary plaid. More traditional kinds — say, using oranges, rusts and golds — deepen the visual language for a harvest-style wedding in the fall. And let’s not forget the preppy possibilities.
Plaid for bridesmaids? Heck yeah, but take advantage of the modern trend to mix up your girls’ attire. Plaid gowns seem to look best against with solids that share a similar spot on the color spectrum, and not so much en masse.

The fun thing about plaid or any other non-weddingy craze to come off the catwalk is, you can easily use it to deeply personalize elements like your stationery, ring pillows or ribbon accents and most of all, your cake.
If you see it on a handbag, it can definitely translate to cake. A.k.a. all the diamond Chanel-style quilting you’ve seen gracing fondant lately. How fun is that? Imagine the options.
