Balloons were everywhere this year, in lookbooks and catalogs, engagement shoots and weddings. The romantic type made a whole lot of sense, as the balloon embodied (like few things could) the hope and optimism of a couple achieving lift-off toward a brand new life together.

So, while 2010 might demand a whole new metaphor and a fresh set of props, 2009’s affianced and newlyweds found their light spirits pretty well captured with some colorful bits of latex and helium. And we all got to go along for the ride.

What’s your take on all the pretty balloons? Should we leave them behind at the decade’s end as a sweet memory? Or will they linger on in engagement shots for years to come?

such pretty pictures!
In my opinion ballons are a sense of celebration and will be here forever.

I'll think they'll be around for awhile. They add so much versatility to a shot, especially with the reflections in many of the larger balloons.
I'm working with a beautiful bride right now that want to use balloons at her Utah winter wedding reception. It has a nice little winter theme and they're actually covering the balloons with some material so it looks like floating snow hills. It's hard to explain but it sounds really cool. And very unique. Balloons are definitely here to stay. So fun.
Raquel, that sounds amazing. I'll be watching your blog in hopes of catching a glimpse of this balloon treatment. Thanks for weighing in!
