So, you’ve yet to line up a reservation for that four-course meal at your sweetie’s favorite bistro? No worries, you can still impress them with a hip candy heart that somehow sort of sums up all of 2009 in one nearly-inedible bite: “TWEET ME.”
Sweethearts candy impresario, Necco (originally very waspishly called by its full name, the “New England Confectionary Company”), did a survey sometime last year asking online contributors what they’d like to see next in pastels.
In addition to an overwhelming wave of “tweet me,” other favorites included “bite me” — from Twilight fans, duh! — “text me” and “love bug,” the latter an apparent homage to a Jonas Brothers movie of the recent past that, thank the sugar gods, I remained blissfully unaware of. Bite me ultimately failed to make the cut, given its potential to offend the last three remaining non-Twihards.

Can we all breathe a collective sigh of relief that Necco, unlike so many other media authorities, didn’t memorialize the avert-your-eyes faux pas, “TWITTER ME”?
Note that if you want to be sure of a little cachet and slipping a TWEET ME to your favorite technophile this year, you may want to get your paws on more than one bag, since this magical phrase only appears about once in 80 candies.
