Lately, we’ve had a few visitors on our fall wedding flowers page ask about the possibility of a blue fall wedding.
Google Insights show that interest in blue weddings is steadily climbing, especially the fall-friendly combo of brown and blue.
No surprise there, with blue being everywhere over the last year or two. As you might recall, bold Blue Iris was crowned as Pantone’s “Color of the Year” for 2008. Pourquoi? “As a reflection of the times, Blue Iris brings together the dependable aspect of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative.”

And interestingly enough, according to DuPont, blue was one of the fastest-rising automotive colors in 2008 — partly due to interest in all things eco. Why not green? In their words, “Blue is being utilized as the ‘new green’ because it is well understood by people all over the world that blue can also represent the preservation of nature.
“Imagine a clear blue sky mirrored in a pristine blue lake and you will get the picture. It is a universal favorite.”

Of course, this engaging hue was long a favorite color for wedding gowns before the Victorian craze for white came along.
No wonder brides are trying to work it into what’s now the hottest season for getting married: autumn.
Turns out this is simpler than it seems. The season’s love for jewel tones make sapphire blue and that warmest of metals something of a power couple.
Something Blue: A Fall WeddingMany fall brides want to keep a naturalistic touch, and sapphire and gold invite just that. Oh-so-desirable caramel apples are a clever touch of “gold.” Purple and blue blooms like Ebb Tide roses, deep purple anemonies or blue hydrangea bring drama to a crisp white bouquet. Cobalt water glasses and blue-rimmed chargers are a fun refrain on the color twist.
What say you … how’s this for your Something Blue in fall?
