1970s bridesmaid

Maybe when you think of hats and bridesmaids — if you think of them at all — picture this 1970s-floppy-boho style.

But did you think they could be as cute as this?

Could they be any lovelier?

Heir Apparent: Sophisticated Fall Pears

by admin on October 21, 2010

You often see poppy green pears as an anchor fruit for summer weddings, but in my mind, it’s Autumn when they really come into their own. Look below for this majestic late-fall fruit providing the legs for a gorgeous wedding in chocolate, gold, champagne and — what else? — pear. My favorite bits in here include the foil-wrapped chocolate pear, the beautiful dipped figs, those amazing green shoes … ah, who am I kidding? I love it all.

Credits: Chocolate pear, cream rose bouquet, pear and marzipan tartlet. Champagne bridesmaids, pick-a-pear favors, gorgeous green shoes. Pear wedding cake, chocolate-dipped figs, pear centerpiece on gold chargers. Bright fall bridesmaids, DIY pear favor, chocolate and ivory tablescape.

Fresh Fall Acorns

This time of year is kind of transitional and in-betweeny. Around here, you’re waiting for the New England Fall shoe to drop, which is glorious, but short, and when it’s over you’re solidly into winter.
But that hasn’t happened yet. Still, I think that there are probably a few Native American languages that have a special [...]

Totes are already some of the biggest sellers at American Bridal. In fact, if you’ve been a bit stuck for ideas on what to get the girls who’ll do you the honor of standing up with you at the wedding, you’ve probably dropped by already and peeked at their personalized goodies.
But the Tote Bag Sale? [...]

The Chanel tattoos are setting hearts afire. It wasn’t just them — Rodarte and Jean Paul Gautier also sent their models down the aisle in ephemeral ink for SS2010 — but Chanel’s versions caused the most heart-thumping cases of gotta-have-it.

Hand-drawn bits of artistry by famous makeup artist Peter Philips gave fashion’s evergreen anglomania a run [...]

Love for Folk Art in Weddings

I lived in Pennsylvania for a bit, and toward the end of that phase of my life, I began to get a little obsessed with Pennsylvania Dutch folk art.
I bought a book off Amazon for quite a lot of money, one probably not printed much more than 200 times, authored by some woman  who apparently [...]

Winter Palette – Charcoal Gray and Nude Tones

Thumbnail image for Winter Palette – Charcoal Gray and Nude Tones

This last weekend, I got the chance to go shopping in Toronto’s toney Yorkville neighborhood. I admit it, I’ve been hating on winter a little … which only intensified as I battled to keep the Canadian wind from working through all the cracks in my armor. But a quick pop into Club Monaco reminded me [...]

It’s in the air … there’s a distinct feeling that wedding gowns are getting bigger on Etsy. Have you felt it?
If so, you were right. Because around the time 2009 rolled over into the new decade, Etsy shoppers found themselves growing remarkably more confident, and demanding more from designers they found there.

In a general way, [...]

Mood Board: Peaches and Parrots

Thumbnail image for Mood Board: Peaches and Parrots

This board is inspired by one of my three most beloved flowers, the parrot tulip. (The other two are peonies and rununculus … um, just in case my husband is reading.)
Parrot tulips are like a cross between prom girls and circus performers. They’ve got crazy, flamboyant colors with rich marbled streaks, and their petal edges [...]
