Just a “tasteful” reminder of some beautiful and edible fall wedding favors in the shop, both classics and fresh new debutantes.

Because as everyone knows, edible favors belong to that very magical category that doesn’t get left behind. (In fact, an obnoxious guest, if not precisely your younger  brother, could very well start circling the tables during the father-daughter dance, looking to score a little extra booty … or is that when you’re giving away mini-liquor bottles? I can never remember.)

Anyway, these days, there must be a lot of specialist elves that skipped Santa’s Shop, because edible favors are often rising to the “work of art” level. The new brownie pops in particular leave me dewey-eyed, but then let’s not forget the more timeless ones, like those individual bottles of maple syrup or the new olive oil favors from Beaucoup.

(FYI: DIY-ers can do their own syrup bottles, but you must keep them consistently refrigerated or the syrup will spoil. It turns a funny green on top, too).

A quick side note: the individual foil packs of coffee are very, very popular this season. There seems to be a definite shift toward practical and/or edible favors this year, as brides seek to associate more value with every purchase. Another breakout star for this fall and winter are the bookmark favors, particularly the ones running less than $1 apiece (and that includes the gift box).

Speaking as a voracious reader, all too prone to dog-earing a page even when (whoops!) the book came from the library, I’ll personally make myself available to receive any extra bookmark favors you have lying around. There. One less worry for you, right?

4th of July Mood Board

July 2, 2009

Happy fourth, readers! Even though my fourths are personally pretty uneventful, I have to admit that as a child I read the entire “Little House” series about 40 times. You know, even the one where Manny cuts hay in the field for about nine chapters straight?
So as a result, the fourth (in my mind) [...]

The Battle of Gray v. Brown — Beyond the Hype

May 1, 2009

Google Insights is one of the most powerful trending tools on the Web, and it’s a wonderful way of getting some solid data in the face of a lot of hype. Sounds pretty geeky, right?   But the truth is, all those maps and graphs can be truly sick. You know, in a good way. So [...]

Lessons Learned From the (in)Famous Chicken Suit Pics

March 31, 2009

Last fall, Tanja Lippert took some e-pics that came to be immortalized as the “Chicken Suit and Naked Chick” series. The pics made her the talk of photo conferences across the land, and rightly so. And the subjects came to be known in internet vernacular as “that smoking-hot D&D guy” and “the chick with the [...]

(Faux) Food as Favors

March 29, 2009

We interrupt today’s regularly-scheduled wordosity … for a post that’s mostly pics. Yes-way.
Can’t remember how I came across this, but when I hit my first cupcake soap at Etsy, I was hooked.
What can I say? Food and I, we’re THIS close. I never met non-factory food I didn’t like (except maybe macaroni and cheese. Longtime [...]

In the Mood for Nudes

March 28, 2009

I remember a few evenings in this winter we’ve just gotten through, buried in wool, flipping through the fashion mags just to amuse all the moths. And running head-on into those predictions (as if the dark and damp wasn’t enough) that 80’s style colors were coming back in a big way. Yes, those very same [...]

Vintage Nautical Board

March 18, 2009

A few weeks ago I was walking through the woods with Mister Two Big Browns, my better half. It was one of those fairytale spots during one of my favorite times of year … right before the woods wake up again. Believe it or not, a bunch of waterfalls were doing their waterfall thang below [...]

(Guitar) Hero for the Day

November 18, 2008

We all instinctively know that Wii is still cool enough to rate a placement on Entourage, despite having existed for more than five minutes. Still, a self-aware bride needs to stay on top of those shifting cultural sands.
Having a Wii corner is hip, but going all out with a Guitar Hero station — or, [...]

Celestial Style for Starry-Eyed Couples

November 18, 2008

There’s a lot of interest in celestial and star themes, thanks in part to the fanatical attraction that most of us feel for Van Gogh’s signature work, and in part due to very hip couples liking to marry in unconventional venues with lots of drama, like planetariums.
So I’ve always wanted to do a celestial board, [...]
